I was one of the lucky ones that received a discount for the Nokia N800 thanks to the Maemo project. This was ordered yesterday and will be arriving in 2-3 days.

I am welcoming myself to Planet Bongo, the canonical resource for information on the project. In the next few entries I will attempt to entertain and inform you readers of Bongo thoughts in my mind.

After hearing the latest LugRadio podcast, I thought I'd try out this Beryl. To cut a long story short, it was rubbish so I removed it. However, I did notice a problem that occurred in Evolution when I was using Xgl, but not when I was using plain-old X.org. Watch the mayhem:

This is of course rather broken, and I'm not entirely sure why. This is how it's meant to look:

(This is of course, the synce-windowsmobile5 mailing list). On a first little look I can't seem to find any report of this happening elsewhere, but I'll have to look again. It also did another weird thing where all the folders would disappear from the left column in Evolution, and they would reappear when you moved your mouse over them, as if you were painting them on!

Lastly, on Beryl: the only useful things I found there were nicer animations for minimizing/maximizing (small details..) and the ALT+TAB window switcher. There might have been more, but it wasn't that impressive, just funny to watch a line of fire taking out a window you just minimised!
