Looking at these instructions for SynCE just sickens me. I really want to strongly suggest one doesn't follow the instructions, but not only does it look as if I'm too late, it also highlights how horrible the SynCE documentation is. Currently the new docs are stored in a less-than-finished docbook file in Subversion: http://synce.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/synce/trunk/synce-docs/. If you're good with Docbook and want to help, email me.

On other SynCE notes, the new site is ready, but the docs are preventing me using the site.

Debian BBQ tomorrow. Lack of laptop means lack of general communication.

I found your site after vainly trying to connect my HTC Prophet to my computer (Ubuntu Gutsy). Just when i was about to start compiling stuff, i read that you dont think that the docs are "good" correct me if I`m wrong. Can you give me a hint how to connect to my phone the easy way?

Hello! Is there a good alternative documentation to synce.org? Where can we find it?

Greeting marco

The wiki at http://www.synce.org/moin/ is nearly brand-new now and is much better than the old docs, which is what I was referring to in this post -- note the date: some time ago.

Czech out the new site: http://www.synce.org/moin/

I'm in agreement with Toni, I've ended up here in desperation after being everywhere looking and trying and testing to no avail. I don't even want to sync my contacts, just IP connectivity without needing to buy some obscure card that may work, perhaps. For info, I'm trying to get an Ipaq 3765 flashed with Familiar/Opie1.2 to connect to a Hardy Heron 8.04 Ubuntu PC using a USB connection. I'll now trawl thru the "new" documentation on the wiki again, knowing that its the latest.

Thanks Boris

Trying to figure out how to install SynCE on Debian/Lenny with KDE (want to access a HTC PocketPC) but the documentation is out-of-date.

The documentation on http://www.synce.org/moin/SynceInstallation/Debian uses usb-rndis-lite-0.11.tar.gz (0.11 is ~1 year old).

However, the latest SynCE (0.13) does not seem to have usb-rndis-lite (see http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?groupid=30550&packageid=22569&release_id=652992).

Install instructions for this version would be really useful.

Kind Regars, J

Forgot to mention that I followed the Debian installation guide on the wiki (moin). I want to access the filesystem on the HTC device. Therefore, installed synce-serial but the commands does not work.

Not sure exactly what it wrong. Could be USB port..

Could it be I found a bug w/ the opensync-plugin-synce? An error in the function for the path resolution in synce-install-plugins.py prevents the plugin to be copied to /usr/share/opensync/default. This makes it hasslesome for tools like Kitchensync to connect to the synce-engine. Quick'n'dirty solution is easy (for sync-engine-0.13 and ~0.11): copy synce-opensync-plugin-[32]x.py to /usr/share/opensync/default/synce-opensync-plugin. Now sync'inc works great for me.

Thanks, Nicole
